By the time 2004 rolled around Kawasaki had been producing bikes under the Vulcan name for around 17 years.
The Kawasaki Vulcan 2000 was sixth in the line to carry the name and the biggest of the bunch, it had a 6 year run until 2010 but certainly made its mark and lasting impact.
It is arguably the best Japanese cruiser ever built, which isn’t a title that gets thrown around lightly.
The Kawasaki Vulcan 2000 series was the pinnacle of the line, until a few years back it boasted the biggest V-Twin ever made (1000cc per cylinder!).
We bought this Kawasaki VN2000 that started and would go into gear but not move, thinking it was a clutch issue we investigated a little further only to find out the drive pulley nut was loose and the shaft was stripped of teeth along with the pulley itself.
It actually turns out that this is quite a common fault with the Vn2000’s that Kawasaki did acknowledge.
An expensive problem to have, especially on such a low mileage bike but we managed to order the parts required and have them fitted in order to solve the issue. Whilst we waited for the parts to arrive we got to work stripping off the tins to repaint it as the original paint was not only sun bleached but chipped and had a dent in the front fender plus the leather panniers were as tough as old boots where the sun had dried them out and the tyres perished with too many rays.
So the bike is now complete and ready to ride. Finished in Mazda’s Deep Crystal Blue Metallic, new whitewalls fitted, rebuilt front calipers (where the bike had stood still for a while) and a fresh oil and filter the bike is in superb condition, it is the kind of bike that we here at American Cruiser UK like to sell.
