“Modern Vintage” styling is the term Kawasaki used to describe the look of their 1500 Drifter, a bike that combines modern elements with “traditional styling cues” – retro features that are more than a little reminiscent of the Indian bikes of the 1940s.

Like the smaller 800 Drifter, the 1500 flaunts luxurious pre-war styling with full, sweeping fenders and chrome spoked wheels. While both have V-twin engines with similar liquid-cooling systems, the similarities mostly end there.

The 1500 offers of course a larger engine of the two meaning it certainly packs more of a punch. It’s also fuel injected with more of a refined feel, a better throttle response and a much more torquey feel about it. The other benefit having fuel injection is knowing you have reliability and not having to worry about whether the carbs need a clean if it isn’t getting used regularly.

I was offered this bike in particular from a chap who had just turned 70 and had promised his daughter he would give up riding, he was quite reluctant to give the bike up!

We don’t see too many of these 1500 models, I was offered one last year but turned it down as it wasn’t up to the standard of bike we like to sell.

This bike however was in general a very nice bike, it was fitted with the Vance & Hines exhaust and just needed a bit of final prep and ‘detailed finishing’ to give it the look it has now!

Since we have had the bike on the bench it has had a minor makeover including two full calliper rebuilds, new discs/pads, white wall tyres and we have had the wheels powdercoated to bring it all together. The bike has also had an oil & filter.

Fitted with the single seat at the moment but it does actually come with the double seat if you are looking to take a pillion.

All in all the bike is in seriously good condition for the age and mileage, check the video for confirmation.
